Dear —,

Thank you for sending us "—". First, we deeply apologize for the extreme and unusually long silence regarding your submission. The Fairy Tale review has weathered less-than agreeable circumstances these last two years, but we are still here.

Unfortunately, we’ve decided we’re unable to publish your piece at this time. Please do not take our the extreme delay in this communication as a reflection for the admiration of your work. Rest assured that your work received careful consideration, even though our small staff and many submissions necessitates form letters like this one. We cannot state enough how much we appreciate your support. We would be nothing without the writers who send us work and who keep on imagining and re-imagining what the fairy tale stands for.

Selecting work will always be a difficult and imperfect task—we receive so many intriguing submissions, but are unable to publish a vast majority of them. We've always liked to say that we don't have a "slush pile"—we just have “a lot of fairy tales to read.” Regardless of our decision here, we admire your commitment to the contemporary fairy tale.

Thanks again and best of luck with this.

Sincerely,

The Editors
