Standard (most Jellyfish Review rejections were personal before 2022)

2021

Dear XX,

Thank you for being a part of our XX submissions call. This one didn't quite feel like a match for us, so we're going to pass this time, but we enjoyed the read. I could feel the XX.

Best of luck with this.

Dear [first name]

Thank you for being a part of the ‘[theme month]’ call for submissions. [Title] didn’t quite feel like a match for us, but we enjoyed the read and we hope you enjoyed the experiment!

If you’d like to try again, please wait one week.

And to say thank you for participating, we wanted to send everybody a nice picture we drew of an octopus that thinks it's a dog😊 Hope you like it

Thanks again

Chris

From a January 2022 query to the editor (see Talk:Jellyfish Review):

At the moment we use a form note, which might change a little bit from month to month, and we add a short personal note whenever we can. Our notes try to indicate something about the story that stood out to us. We don't have tiers as such, but if we really, really liked a piece then we might say 'this one came close for us'.

Dear [name]

Thank you for being a part of our [theme] submissions call. [Title] didn't quite feel like a match for us, so we're going to pass this time, but we enjoyed the read.

We've been having a fantastic response to this call, and are enjoying all the [note on theme] and all the different ways people have approached the challenge. If you'd like to submit again in [next submissions period], we look forward to seeing what else you come up with 🙂

Best of luck with this
